About the campaign ״ועתה כתבו לכם את השירה הזאת..״
"...write for yourselves this song, and teach it to the Children of Israel. Place it into their mouths, in order that this song will be for Me as a witness for the children of Israel." On the threshold of the Promised Land, Moshe received a final Command from G‑d – the Mitzvah of Writing a Torah Scroll. Moshe's journey through this world, as a heroic leader, teacher, and advocate for his people, was nearing its end. The Torah Moshe would transmit to the Jewish nation would serve as an everlasting foundation of our faith. A precious scroll with the power to guide our ancestors into the Land, and then into the future. Transcribing the Torah, preserving its traditions, and passing it from generation to generation is our Eitz Chaim, our Tree of Life, and so it will continue to be. It is with profound joy that we share this powerful mitzvah with our community through the Posner Torah Writing Campaign, in living memory of the life work of Rabbi Zalman and Rebbetzin Risya Posner, OBM. Rabbi Zalman and Rebbetzin Risya Posner served the Nashville Jewish community for over 50 years. As teachers, role models, and communal leaders, the Torah they showed others was beautiful and accessible, filled with life and wisdom fit for the modern day. An outstanding scholar and brilliant thinker, Rabbi Posner had a gift for sharing his immense Torah knowledge with warmth and grace. Rebbetzin Posner was an artist and educator whose kindergarten classroom was filled with joy and laughter for decades. Together they impacted the lives of thousands of Jewish souls, and continue, by extension, to do so today. The writing of this Sefer Torah thus a fitting tribute to their remarkable, and ongoing, legacy. In tribute to these two great communal leaders – and in the tradition first set forth by Moshe – we invite you to partake in the mitzvah of writing a new Torah scroll. Having a scribe write a new scroll is a monumental undertaking, and we would be honored if you could contribute one Torah portion, a column, a line, or even a single letter to this project. As Rabbi Zalman and Rebbetzin Risya knew best, it is from all of our individual efforts that a great communal whole emerges. Chabad of Palm Springs www.chabadps.com |
